Wounded Gendarmes: Drug Baron Caught by Massive Gendarmerie Operation
An intervention to arrest a drug baron turned into an armed confrontation during the night of Sunday to Monday in Aït Maït. The suspect opened fire, wounding two gendarmes, before fleeing.
The operation conducted by the territorial brigade aimed to arrest an individual actively sought for hard drug trafficking. According to information reported by the daily newspaper Assabah, the situation quickly escalated. The suspect, possibly accompanied by one or two accomplices, used a rifle to escape. The gunfire seriously wounded one gendarme and slightly injured a second officer. Both victims had to be urgently evacuated to the provincial hospital in Driouch for treatment.

Following the report of the incident, the Nador regional gendarmerie launched a vast security operation. Reinforcements were sent to secure the area and begin sweeping operations in hopes of finding the fugitives, whose direction remains unknown. Under the instructions of the prosecutor’s office, the judicial police are now conducting the investigation to "clarify the exact circumstances of the confrontation and identify any accomplices."
