Man hunt near Nador: drug baron opens fire on Royal Gendarmerie
Two Royal Gendarmerie officers were wounded, one seriously, during a violent chase that occurred in the early hours of Sunday. The suspect, a hard drug trafficker, opened fire to escape.
The intervention went wrong shortly after midnight in the municipality of Aït Mait. Officers were attempting to apprehend an individual actively sought for drug trafficking. According to information reported by media outlet Nadorcity, the situation escalated into a direct confrontation when the suspect, who was potentially with one or two accomplices, drew a firearm and opened fire on patrols. Bullet fragments seriously wounded one gendarme, while his colleague sustained lighter injuries. Both victims were quickly transferred to Driouch provincial hospital for treatment.

Following this attack, authorities launched a general mobilization. The area is currently the subject of intense sweep operations conducted by the Royal Gendarmerie, supported by reinforcements dispatched from Nador to track down the shooters.
