Tangier: Hollywood-style car chase and gunfire against the backdrop of drug trafficking
The Gzenaya area, on the outskirts of Tangier, was the scene on Thursday of a spectacular car chase punctuated by gunfire. The Royal Gendarmerie has opened an investigation into this incident with the appearance of a settling of scores, favoring the trail of a conflict between drug traffickers.
Road users on the coastal road connecting the Hajriyine area to Ibn Battouta airport witnessed a scene of violence worthy of an action movie. Two light vehicles engaged in a manhunt, multiplying dangerous maneuvers in the middle of traffic. The tension escalated when gunshots rang out: one of the protagonists used a shotgun, firing three times in circumstances that remain unclear.
While no injuries have been confirmed so far, the two vehicles managed to escape before the arrival of the security forces, one fleeing towards the airport and the other disappearing into nature. Alerted, the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie of Tangier immediately went to the scene to secure the area and collect the first clues.
The investigators, working under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office, now favor the trail of organized crime. According to the initial investigations, this armed confrontation would be linked to a territorial war or a financial dispute between drug trafficking networks operating in the region. The search is intensifying to identify the occupants of the cars and shed light on the background of this public vendetta.
