Marrakech Sizzles into Top 11 Global Food Destinations, Outranking Culinary Giant Tokyo

A Moroccan city is ranked among the best food destinations in the world. Tokyo, the Japanese city with the most Michelin-starred restaurants in the world, is absent from the top 20.
Marrakech (Morocco) ranks 11th in the list of the best food destinations in the world in 2025, established by the media Time Out. It is preceded by Jakarta (Indonesia) 10th, Paris (France), 9th and Shanghai (China), 8th. The Moroccan city is followed by Lima (Peru), 12th, Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), 13th, Mumbai (India) 14th, Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), 15th, Cairo (Egypt), 16th and Porto (Portugal), 17th.
Bangkok (Thailand) tops the ranking. It is followed by New Orleans (United States). Medellín (Colombia) takes third place. Then come Cape Town (South Africa), Madrid (Spain) and Mexico City in Mexico. Lagos (Nigeria) takes 7th place. Montreal (Canada), Naples (Italy) and San José (California) round out the podium.
The surprise of this ranking? Tokyo, the Japanese city, praised for its fine cuisine, is absent from the top 20. Yet it is the city with the most Michelin-starred restaurants in the world.
