Marrakech Shines: Morocco’s Hidden Gem Among World’s Happiest Cities
A famous British magazine places a Moroccan city in its ranking of the 20 happiest cities in the world.
Marrakech ranks 15th in the ranking of the 20 happiest cities in the world in 2025, established by Time Out. It is ahead of Porto (Portugal), Sydney (Australia) and Chiang Mai (Thailand). It is followed by Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Hanoi (Vietnam) and Jakarta (Indonesia). Valencia (Spain) and Glasgow (United Kingdom) close the podium.
Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) rises to the first place in the ranking of the 20 happiest cities in the world. It is followed by Medellín, (Colombia). Cape Town (South Africa) takes third place. Then come Mexico City (Mexico), Mumbai (India), Beijing (China) and Shanghai (China). Chicago (United States) takes eighth place, while Seville (Spain) occupies 9th place. Melbourne (Australia) completes the top 10.
To carry out this ranking, the magazine directly addressed a questionnaire to 18,000 city dwellers. They answered questions about culture, nightlife, gastronomy, ease of travel, financial accessibility and quality of life, but also about specific questions about happiness. Then, Time Out focused its approach on the percentage of positive responses to five statements: "My city makes me happy; I feel happier in my city than in other places I have visited or lived; The people in my city seem happy; I find joy in the everyday experiences my city offers; The sense of happiness in my city has increased a lot recently."
