Internet Usage Soars in Morocco: 75% Online, 60% Active on Social Media

About 28 million Moroccans, or 75% of the population, have access to the Internet and nearly 22 million use social networks, according to a recent study.
In its latest report on the use of the Internet and social networks in the world, Datareportal reports that the number of Internet users in the world has exceeded 5 billion users. Morocco has nearly 28 million people with access to the Internet, or about 75% of the population and 2.3 million more than last year.

Regarding social networks, 60% of the Moroccan population, mainly young people, are active on these platforms, which represents an increase of 10% compared to last year. Better, with the restrictive measures related to the health crisis, the number of social network users in Morocco has reached 22.2 million, an increase of 4% compared to 2020.

The use of the Internet and social networks has intensified with the advent of smartphones, the report also notes, specifying that in Morocco, 98.1% of the population aged 16 to 64 owns a smartphone, compared to about 28% for those who have a computer and just under 13% for those who have tablets. More than 92% use the smartphone to connect to social networks, the document also points out that 32.2% of the population use the mobile phone to make online purchases.

WhatsApp is at the top of the social networks preferred by Moroccans. According to the data published in the report, 7 out of 10 Moroccans have downloaded the messaging app, or 73.7% of the population. It is followed by Facebook (70%), YouTube (66%), Instagram (51.6%), TikTok (37%), Snapchat (26%) and Twitter (22%).
