WhatsApp to Stop Working on Older Smartphones Starting November 1

The WhatsApp messaging service will stop working on certain smartphones starting tomorrow, Monday, November 1.
Launched in 2011, the WhatsApp messaging app, owned by Facebook since 2014, had announced in February 2020 that it had crossed the 2 billion user mark worldwide. True to its tradition, the company wants to set aside new devices, considered outdated.
As of Monday, November 1, the application will no longer work properly on iPhones and Android phones dating back more than five years, and using older updates of their operating system. In other words, smartphone users with versions prior to Android 4.1 and iOS 10 will no longer be able to access WhatsApp updates. In total, about fifty smartphones are affected by this upcoming change.
