Miss Universe Morocco Contestant Faces Online Backlash Over Algeria Comments

Kawtar Benhalima, the replacement for Fatima-Zahra Khayat in the global final of the Miss Universe Morocco 2021 contest, which will take place in December, is the target of fierce attacks on social networks.
Kawtar Benhalima is the target of attacks from Moroccan Internet users after posting a video in which she recounts the story of her Algerian grandmother, a refugee in Morocco, and who passed on her sewing know-how to some Moroccans.

This video, which went viral on social networks, carried a message of brotherhood between the Moroccan and Algerian peoples. Unfortunately, the first runner-up of Miss Universe Morocco 2021 was misunderstood or at least her words were misinterpreted by Moroccan Internet users.
Some of them even went so far as to set up a petition to demand her dismissal and her replacement by the second runner-up.
