Morocco Returns to Miss Universe Pageant After 41-Year Absence

Morocco is participating in the 70th edition of the Miss Universe pageant, scheduled to take place in Israel. A historic return for the kingdom, whose last participation dates back to 1980.
"The Kingdom of Morocco is making a graceful return. A young Moroccan woman will be elected ambassador to represent Morocco at Miss Universe. An event that celebrates women from around the world, giving them the opportunity to share their culture and origins. This international competition allows the participants to express their ideas and become role models for future generations," wrote Miss Universe Morocco on its website.
The competition will take place in Haifa on December 12, with the participation of 75 contestants from different countries around the world. The selected Miss will have to win the crown in a national competition, "which honors Moroccan women for their beauty and intelligence," according to the same source. The winner of Miss Universe Morocco will carry the voice of her country and its people, and will have to embody beauty, peace, and be a reflection of the essential values that characterize Morocco.
