WhatsApp Dominates Moroccan Social Media, Study Finds 90% Urban Usage

A large majority, or 84% to 90% of Moroccans, use the WhatsApp messaging service. In this group of users, 79% are true addicts, while nearly 3 out of 4 Moroccans regularly use Facebook.
This mapping of social networks in Morocco in 2021 carried out by the Sunergia group reveals that in the urban environment, the rate of WhatsApp users has reached 90% across all social classes and in all regions of the kingdom.
The study points out that only farmers and fishermen over the age of 45 with very low incomes and people without a Smartphone are the exception to the rule. Thanks to its voice message option, WhatsApp is popular with all social classes regardless of their level of education, notes the social media barometer, specifying that 1/3 of users are non-schooled.
Facebook, the first popular social network in the kingdom, is used regularly by 3 out of 4 Moroccans in 2021 against a usage rate of 57% in 2019.
