Surveillance Footage Exposes Tourist Robbery Ring in Tangier Court Drama

The trial of two individuals prosecuted for the theft of a German tourist opened on Tuesday, September 2 before the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal of Tangier. The two defendants are being prosecuted for acts qualified as "aggravated theft", based on video surveillance recordings.
The victim was intercepted by three people who stole a sum of 3000 dirhams from him. According to the elements of the file, the money was shared between the perpetrators immediately after the theft.
The investigation was mainly based on the recordings of surveillance cameras. The images would clearly show the involvement of the two suspects in this theft, as well as their attempt to follow another tourist of French nationality. These elements allowed the police services to identify them and proceed with their arrest.
During the hearing, the accused denied the charges against them. The public prosecutor, however, maintained the prosecution and requested a harsher sentence. At the end of the debates, the court took the matter under advisement and will deliver its judgment at a later date.
