American Tourist Caught Red-Handed: Bazaar Theft in Marrakech’s Medina Leads to Dramatic Arrest

Suspected of being involved in a theft committed in a bazaar located in the Kennaria district in the medina, a 56-year-old American tourist was arrested by the police services of the fourth district of Marrakech.
It all started with a family stroll through the alleys of the old town. The American tourist enters a bazaar in the Kennaria district, known for its craft products and souvenirs. While he was browsing some of the displayed items, he came across a bag placed behind a table containing a large sum of money. Taking advantage of the inattention of the vendors, he stole the bag.
After the tourist’s passage, the owner of the bazaar noticed the disappearance of the bag. He filed a complaint with the police, accompanied by the surveillance camera recordings that clearly showed the commission of the theft. The police opened an investigation, which allowed them to identify the suspect and locate his position. The American tourist was arrested in the presence of his family on the Jemaa El-Fna square.
During his interrogation, the suspect confessed. He told the police the place where he had hidden the stolen bag - a guest house in the Mellah district. He also told them that he had gotten rid of some unimportant papers that the bag contained in a restaurant. The investigators were able to recover this bag containing approximately 14,000 dirhams.
Pending his appearance before the public prosecutor for the continuation of the judicial procedure, the accused has been placed in detention.
