French Tourist Jailed in Marrakech for False Theft Claim Against Airport Security

A French national is behind bars in Marrakech after making false accusations against the security agents at Marrakech-Ménara International Airport. The man tried to make believe that his mobile phone was stolen during the security checks.
The events took place upon arrival of an international flight. The French traveler exhibited suspicious behavior during the usual search procedures. A few minutes later, he claimed that his mobile phone had disappeared and directly accused the police officers.
The authorities immediately decided to check the surveillance camera recordings. These images would quickly refute the tourist’s allegations.
The examination of the footage reveals that the accusations are completely unfounded. The recordings show that the phone was never stolen and establish that the complaint constitutes an attempt to slander the agents.
The 18th police station in Marrakech drew up an official report of the incident. The French tourist was then brought before the public prosecutor’s office at the court of first instance in Marrakech, which ordered his pre-trial detention.
The man has been transferred to the Oudaya prison pending the investigation of the case.
