Bab Sebta: Belgian Arrested With 50 Kilos of Hashish Hidden in Car
Moroccan customs and police thwarted a smuggling attempt at the Bab Sebta border post on Saturday morning. A Belgian national was apprehended with a significant quantity of narcotics concealed in his vehicle.
During a search, officers discovered approximately 50 kilograms of hashish aboard a light Peugeot vehicle headed toward Ceuta. The driver, a 58-year-old Belgian citizen, had carefully constructed a secret hiding place beneath the rear seat. The vehicle’s chassis had been specially modified to conceal the drug tablets in a professional manner and thus evade the vigilance of authorities.

On instructions from the competent prosecutor’s office, the 50-something man was placed in police custody and handed over to the judicial police in Tetouan. An in-depth investigation is underway to identify potential ramifications of this criminal network, while the drugs and vehicle have been seized. This arrest comes amid heightened border surveillance, whose effectiveness is currently sparking debate after another vehicle heavily laden with narcotics managed to evade controls earlier in the week.
