West Ham Fans Call for Aguerd’s Exit After Poor Defensive Performances

Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd who joined his club after his disappointing participation in the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN Côte d’Ivoire 2023) is struggling to shine to the point that the Hammers supporters are demanding his departure.
Since his return from the CAN, Moroccan central defender Nayef Aguerd has been accumulating poor performances with West Ham. His club lost the matches against Manchester United (0-3) on February 4 and Arsenal (0-6) on Sunday. After these two defeats, many supporters have pointed the finger at the Hammers’ defense, and particularly the Atlas Lion. They mainly blame him for his poor positioning which cost his teammates dearly in the match against the Gunners. The Moroccan international was no match for the speed and technique of Bukayo Saka, Arsenal’s star. West Ham’s central defense conceded 4 goals in 45 minutes of play.
Since then, Nayef Aguerd has been criticized for his poor performances. Some Hammers fans are even calling for the departure of the player who won the Conference League last year and had an excellent season as a starter in West Ham’s backline.
Will the 27-year-old player have to find a new club? In late December, West Ham would have wanted to recruit the Bundesliga defenders, Jonathan Tah and Dan-Axel Zagadou, during the January transfer window to replace the Atlas Lion and was expecting a £30 million offer. In search of a high-quality central defender, AC Milan also showed interest in the Moroccan. During the summer transfer window, Saudi Arabian clubs also wanted to acquire the services of the player who is in the Top 10 of the most expensive African players, but he preferred to stay in London.
