Moroccan Defender Nayef Aguerd’s Rise to Premier League Stardom Documented

A new documentary has been made on the journey of Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd, who plays as a central defender at West Ham in the English Premier League.
"Premier League Stories - Nayef Aguerd". This is the title of the new documentary tracing the journey of the Moroccan international born in Kenitra. Trained at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Salé, he made his professional debut with the Moroccan club FUS Rabat, played for the French clubs Dijon and Rennes, before joining West Ham United in the English Premier League in July 2022 as part of a £30 million contract (around €35 million) for a duration of five years.
"I think Aguerd’s story is incredible. He is the symbol of a Moroccan child who played in Morocco, who was born in Morocco and who has managed to rise to the best league in the world," said French journalist Julien Laurens, a football specialist. "For the children of Morocco, Aguerd is a Hollywood story," he added.
His serious ankle injury that almost interrupted his first season in the English top flight is one of the most striking and moving scenes in the documentary. In 2022, Aguerd underwent ankle surgery after being injured in a pre-season friendly match against Rangers. "The two weeks after the operation, I had trouble moving, so I was at the hotel, taking a lot of painkillers," the Moroccan defender confides in the documentary.
The historic and exceptional journey of the Moroccan team at the 2022 Qatar World Cup also made its way into the film. "I will never forget this tournament," says the one for whom playing for the national team was a childhood dream. Aguerd’s current market value is estimated at 32 million euros.
