From 4 to 7 out of 10: Achraf Hakimi divides the French press after Rennes-PSG

Achraf Hakimi delivered a performance that was difficult to assess on Sunday during PSG’s 2-2 draw at Rennes. Highly involved on his flank and behind several chances, the Moroccan also left spaces open. French media ratings therefore ranged from 4 to 7/10.

2-0 down at half-time, Paris Saint-Germain avoided defeat thanks to a brace from Ferran Torres. In this dramatic encounter, Achraf Hakimi was involved in almost all of Paris’s attacks down the right, but was unable to turn his activity into a goal or an assist.

L’Équipe gave him a rating of 6/10. The sports daily therefore rewarded a performance slightly above average, despite several missed efforts in the final third.

The verdict was considerably harsher at Maxifoot, which gave him 4/10. The outlet focused on the spaces left behind the Moroccan full-back during Rennes’ transitions. It also highlighted his numerous forward runs, but felt that his crosses too rarely found a teammate.

CulturePSG placed him between the two with a 5/10. The specialist website observed greater energy for an hour, while regretting Hakimi’s lack of precision when finishing off attacks.

The same match, two opposing readings

At the other end of the scale, ParisFans awarded Achraf Hakimi a generous 7/10. The outlet highlighted his impressive activity, his defensive recoveries and a chance created for Ousmane Dembélé. In the 37th minute, the Moroccan had indeed played the ball to his teammate in an ideal position, but the latter sent his shot over the goal.

Hakimi accelerated again down his wing in the 76th minute before finding Torres, whose lay-off created a favorable opportunity for Désiré Doué. This new chance was not converted either. The full-back then received a yellow card in the 84th minute and lacked precision with his final crossing attempts.

The average of the four ratings was 5.5/10. It sums up a two-sided performance: Hakimi provided width and created several openings, but his wastefulness in the final action and the spaces conceded behind him make it impossible to call it a fully successful match.
