Rejected at medical, this Moroccan finds a club nine days later

Couhaib Driouech’s transfer to the Glasgow Rangers had collapsed because of an injury deemed concerning by Scottish doctors. Nine days later, PSV Eindhoven have reached a new agreement for the Moroccan winger, who is expected at Celta Vigo.

Couhaib Driouech thought he had found his next destination. On August 13, the PSV Eindhoven winger even watched the Europa League match between the Glasgow Rangers and Jagiellonia from the Ibrox stands. His transfer to Scotland then seemed almost finalized.

But the medical examination abruptly halted the deal. The Rangers’ doctors reportedly believed that the player would have to remain unavailable for around six weeks. A diagnosis disputed in the Netherlands, where his thigh injury is considered minor.

Driouech explained that a small muscle tear had worsened after he took a blow to the knee, causing a hematoma. With no agreement between the different doctors, the Rangers ultimately abandoned their pursuit of him, and the Moroccan returned to Eindhoven.

A decisive new medical examination in Vigo

Celta Vigo, who had already been monitoring the player for several weeks, immediately revived negotiations. The Spanish club and PSV have now reached an agreement for a permanent transfer, reports the daily AS.

The transfer fee is reportedly lower than the eight million euros the Rangers were prepared to pay. Driouech must now travel to Vigo for another medical examination before signing his contract. This stage will inevitably be closely monitored after the failure of his transfer to Scotland.

At 24, the Moroccan international at under-23 level is therefore preparing to discover his first league outside the Netherlands. He will also be able to play in the Europa League with Celta Vigo. Nine days after the setback in Glasgow, another door has therefore opened for him in Spain.
