Tourists Face Price Gouging and Parking Scams at Marrakech’s Iconic Jemaa El-Fna Square

Tourists and residents of Marrakech continue to suffer the diktat of parking attendants and the exaggerated rise in prices of cafes, restaurants and other businesses located on Jemaa El-Fna square and its surroundings.
These illegal parking attendants demand exorbitant amounts from Marrakechis and visitors, sometimes double or triple the official rates. In addition to the anarchy of the "yellow vests", the latter are also confronted with the exaggerated and unjustified rise in prices of cafes, restaurants and other businesses located around Jemaa El-Fna square.
Many tourists, both Moroccan and foreign, say they regret having chosen to visit the ochre city because of these deplorable situations, reports the local site kech24. These illegal practices taking place on Jemaa El-Fna square and its surroundings are damaging the reputation of the famous square and the city of Marrakech as a global tourist destination, they deplore.
To bring a little order to this square, visitors call on the local authorities to be firmer in putting an end to these abuses. They also invite them to strengthen the supervision of these establishments on Jemaa El-Fna square and its surroundings in order to preserve the tourist appeal and reputation of the ochre city.
