Tangier Invests $21 Million in Rail Project for 2030 World Cup

Tangier is actively preparing to host the 2030 World Cup. A vast rail link project is on track, with the ambition of connecting the city’s nerve centers: the Ibn Battouta stadium, the airport and the station. A significant investment exceeding 210 million dirhams is committed.
The preliminary studies, launched last week, will last five weeks. They will lay the groundwork for this large-scale project, the launch of which is expected for the end of the year. Several actors are putting their hands in their pockets to finance this project: the Ministry of the Interior, the National Railway Office (ONCF), the Tangier Regional Council, as well as other institutions.
The future train will not only connect the three main points. Its route will serve strategic areas of Tangier. It will start from the Al Boraq station, then stop at a new station under construction in Ain Dalia, near the Tanger Tech zone. The train will then run along the Sidi Hssain dam.
The route has been designed to serve the people of Tangier on a daily basis. The train will thus pass through the wholesale fruit and vegetable market, the fish market and the new bus station.
The main station, on the other hand, will be located in the heart of the Hassani complex, just steps from the Grand Stade de Tangier. An ideal location for supporters who will come to attend the World Cup matches. Finally, the line will end at Tangier Ibn Battouta airport, offering direct connection to travelers.
The schedule is tight. To be ready by 2030, the inauguration of this new line is scheduled for the end of 2028.
