Morocco Plans High-Speed Rail Expansion to Marrakech for 2030 World Cup

Morocco aims to modernize its rail network, in preparation for the 2030 World Cup. The project to extend the High-Speed Line (LGV) to Marrakech is part of this dynamic.
As part of this project, the National Railway Office (ONCF) plans to build 18 new LGV and RER stations in Marrakech, informs Le Desk, specifying that this project aims to interconnect the city’s transport networks and those of the Marrakech-Safi region in order to strengthen the economy and regional accessibility. Thus, Marrakech will have a second LGV station and four RER stations spread across strategic areas.
These modern stations will be built in compliance with environmental and sustainable development standards, assures the ONCF, which says it is working to improve the quality of transport services. With this in mind, the new LGV station planned in Benguerir, near the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, will be a "smart and ecological city of knowledge", combining sustainability and connectivity, the media reports.
The project also provides for the construction of two new RER stations in the industrial areas of Sidi Bou Othmane and Sidi Ghanem. The aim is to facilitate the movement of workers between urban and industrial areas. An RER station will also be built near the Marrakech Grand Stadium, in the perspective of the 2030 World Cup. It will contribute to streamlining traffic to this stadium and strengthening the local economy.
With this project combining LGV, RER and New Regional Trains (TNR), the ONCF aims to streamline travel and meet the growing needs of populations in terms of fast and efficient transport. Estimated at 460 million dirhams, this project will mark a major advance in the transport sector in Morocco.
