A train to connect the airport to the Tanger TGV station
The project to connect the Tanger station and the Ibn Battouta airport by rail is taking a decisive step. An expropriation order has just sealed the fate of the land concerned, concretely launching this strategic project worth 2.1 billion dirhams for the upcoming sporting events.
The official announcement has been made in the Official Bulletin. The Head of Government has validated the public utility of the line, giving the legal green light to the expropriation procedures. This decision, signed by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, transforms the topographic plans into land reality: the construction equipment now has a free path to trace this 15-kilometer corridor through the prefecture.
The route will redesign the logistics of the city of the Strait. The line will connect the Al Boraq station in the city center to the airport, but it will also serve as an economic backbone. The rail line will serve the industrial zone via a new station at Aïn Dalia, skirting the Tanger Tech city. The route will then run along the Sidi Hssaine dam, cross the wholesale markets and the new bus station, before making a strategic stop at the Hassani complex, the gateway to the Grand Stadium of Tanger.
This acceleration responds to a double urgency: to streamline air access and prepare the infrastructure for the global sporting events that the Kingdom is about to host. The massive investment of more than 2.1 billion dirhams mobilizes a round table including the Ministry of the Interior, the ONCF and the Regional Council, united to adapt the network to the local demographic and economic pressure.
