Tanger Med Breaks Cargo Record with 161 Million Tonnes

The Tanger Med port complex handled a total of 11,106,164 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) during 2025. This performance marks an 8.4% increase compared with the previous year, supported in particular by the commissioning of the latest extension to the TC4 terminal. Across all activities, the volume of goods reached 161 million tonnes, up 13.3% year on year. This activity was facilitated by the arrival of 1,319 mega-ships measuring more than 290 metres, benefiting from port-call optimization systems.

Regarding road transport, TIR truck traffic reached 535,203 units, representing an increase of 3.6%. This momentum was mainly driven by exports of industrial and agri-food products, which rose by 4.8% and 4.3%, respectively. The liquid bulk segment also recorded 13% growth, reaching 8.6 million tonnes. In contrast, dry bulk declined by 11% to 522,493 tonnes, a drop attributed to delays in cereal imports.

Passenger activity rose by 5.7% to reach 3.2 million travelers, while the number of cars increased by 5% to 895,341 units. The Marhaba campaign proceeded smoothly following the widespread adoption of the fixed-ticket system. However, the vehicle terminals saw their activity fall by 12%, with 526,862 units handled. This decline was due to production adjustments by Renault and Stellantis in response to international demand. The total number of maritime port calls also fell by 4.5% to 16,686, as the RoPax segment increasingly favors higher-capacity vessels.
