Sevilla FC Fires Coach Lopetegui After Poor Start to Season

Sevilla FC, a club where several Moroccan players play, announced on Thursday the dismissal of its coach Julen Lopetegui. The decision comes the day after the defeat against Dortmund in the Champions League.
The discourse of the now former coach of Youssef En-Nesyri and the national team goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was clearly no longer getting through. This is evidenced by the poor performances recorded by the club, which are reflected in a chaotic start to the season (17th in Liga with 1 small win, 0 win in C1).
As a result, "Sevilla FC has dismissed Julen Lopetegui as coach of the first team after the clash between the Nervión team and Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday. Lopetegui closes a successful stage with three magnificent campaigns during which the objectives were more than achieved and a fourth season in which, however, the results have not materialized, Sevilla FC obtaining five points out of 21 possible in Liga," the management said in a statement.
The Spanish technician has spent three seasons in the club during which he notably won the Europa League. Youssef En-Nesyri and his teammates will face Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, in the 8th round of La Liga. They will be led by Jorge Sampaoli.
