Moroccan Goalkeeper Bounou Defends Teammate En-Nesyri Amid Sevilla's Struggles

Moroccan international Yassine Bounou was on Monday the guest of a press conference organized by La Liga Maroc. A videoconference interview during which the FC Seville goalkeeper spoke about his performances, the club’s drop in form and the criticism that his teammate Youssef En-Nesyri is facing from supporters.

[Distinguished last season as the best goalkeeper in La Liga], Yassine Bounou is in poor form at the start of this season with FC Seville (12 goals conceded, 8 in La Liga and 4 in the Champions League). A situation that does not reassure Moroccan supporters who are worried a few weeks before the World Cup. He is indeed part of the list of 31 players called up by national coach Walid Regragui for the next two friendly matches against Chile (September 23) and Paraguay (September 27), reports Le Matin.

For the 31-year-old player, there is no need to worry about his current form. It is due to a number of parameters that are easy to control. "You know, as a footballer, we always have to be ready in difficult times. I don’t feel abandoned by my defense, but I feel the team is in a process of improvement, reconstruction and that will take a little time. But overall, I’m happy with the level of my teammates. We have to continue to work and progress together to regain our level. And on a personal level, I will continue to correct my shortcomings," he replied.

Regarding the situation of his teammate Youssef En-Nseyri, criticized for his performances deemed disappointing, Yassine Bounou assured that the latter is working hard to regain his best level. "As you know, Youssef is coming back from a serious injury sustained last season. He is recovering with difficulty and this year, little by little, he is regaining his previous level. It’s not easy because he’s a player who has several roles on the pitch. So it’s not obvious for him to regain the top level, knowing that he has to be efficient on all levels. But currently, I find that he is training well, he is doing much better mentally and I am sure that we will soon see the best version of Youssef En-Nesyri."

He is convinced that the Youssef En-Nesyri of the great days will soon make his return. "Moreover, this week, he had a great game, we found this courageous Youssef who fills the spaces. So I think he has to continue on this line. He is a player who has always known how to move forward, despite the difficulties," said the Moroccan goalkeeper.
