Royal Air Maroc gains 12 places and becomes Africa’s best regional airline again

This year, Royal Air Maroc ranks 58th among the world’s 100 best airlines, compared with 70th place in 2025, according to the new World Airline Awards by Skytrax ranking. The national airline has therefore gained twelve positions in one year.

This recovery comes after the sharp decline recorded in the previous edition. In 2025, RAM had lost fifteen places in this same ranking, dropping from 55th to 70th place. It has therefore recovered most of the ground it lost, although it has not yet returned to its 2024 level.

The progress is also visible at the continental level. Royal Air Maroc moves from sixth to fourth place in Skytrax’s African ranking. It is now behind Ethiopian Airlines, EgyptAir and Air Mauritius, but moves ahead of RwandAir and South African Airways again.

RAM also earns another distinction. Skytrax ranks it as Africa’s best regional airline, ahead of RwandAir and Airlink. It thus regains the top position it lost in 2025 to the Rwandan airline.

Worldwide in this category, Royal Air Maroc rises from tenth to eighth place. Bangkok Airways remains in the lead, ahead of Porter Airlines and Virgin Australia. Skytrax defines a regional airline as a full-service carrier whose activity is mainly based on domestic or international flights lasting approximately six hours or less.

The ranking is based on a satisfaction survey conducted from September 2025 to August 2026. More than 300 airlines were assessed by travelers from over 100 nationalities. Duplicate or deemed invalid responses are removed, while weighting based on passenger numbers makes it possible to compare carriers of different sizes.

Travelers assess, in particular, cabin service, check-in, boarding, seat comfort, cleanliness, meals, baggage delivery and digital services. Skytrax specifies that the survey is independently funded and that airlines do not pay to participate.

In the 2026 overall ranking, Singapore Airlines takes the top global position from Qatar Airways. Cathay Pacific completes the podium, while Air France rises to seventh place.
