Morocco Urges Formation of Unity Government in Lebanon Amid Political Deadlock

Morocco aspires for the Lebanese people, with its different components, to make progress in the formation of a national unity government in order to show a new image benefiting from the support of the international community.
During a videoconference interview on Wednesday with the Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Foreign Minister of Lebanon, Zeina Akar, Nasser Bourita affirmed that Morocco has always called for respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to a statement from the Ministry.
Earlier the same day, the Lebanese presidency announced that the designated Prime Minister Saad Hariri had submitted a government formation to the President of the country, Michel Aoun, which includes new names and a new distribution of ministerial portfolios.
Regarding bilateral cooperation, Mr. Bourita expressed Morocco’s willingness to update the legal framework and activate cooperation mechanisms for the benefit of the two brotherly countries and peoples, the same source notes.
In this regard, the two parties agreed to form a joint consular committee to examine the possibility of facilitating the granting of visas for citizens of the two countries.
