Libya Seeks Moroccan Military Expertise to Unify Armed Forces

Morocco could intervene in Libya in the military field. The Libyan army has just requested the support of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) to meet the security challenges in the country.

At the end of the 17th edition of African Lion, the largest exercise in Africa, the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army, representing the Libyan Government of National Unity, requested the expertise and experience of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) to unify the military institutions and strengthen them in order to face all the dangers threatening the country, reports the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghrebia.

According to the newspaper, General Mohamad al-Haddad expressed his country’s willingness to consolidate military cooperation with Morocco in order to face the challenges facing his country.

In response to the Libyan request, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, affirmed that King Mohammed VI has given instructions to support the Libyan political process until the realization of the country’s stability. "Morocco always stands by this country and accompanies all the choices of its institutions," the Moroccan foreign minister also said, who had exchanged in Rabat, a week earlier, with his Libyan counterpart Najla Mangoush on the agenda proposed by the government of national unity.

Before him, the President of the Parliament of the East (Tobruk), Salah Aguila, and the President of the High Council of State had made a visit to Morocco to exchange with the Moroccan authorities on the efforts in favor of peace in Libya.

The efforts of Morocco in the inter-Libyan dialogue and the resolution of the crisis have been highlighted by the international community and welcomed by the UN, the African Union (AU), the European Union (EU), the Arab League and several Western capitals, the newspaper recalls.
