Morocco Uncovers Terrorist Weapon Caches Linked to ISIS Cell

The day after the dismantling of a terrorist cell linked to Daesh, on September 5 in Berkane and Nador, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), under the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), conducted in-depth investigations. They made it possible to locate two weapon cache sites in the Kingdom.

The sites discovered by the elements of the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) are located in a mountainous area in the Imchtassen douar, in the commune of Dar al-Kabdani in the province of Driouch, where the members of this cell were conducting experiments in the manufacture of explosives, specifies a press release from the Ministry of the Interior.

After the searches carried out on Monday, September 9, in these places, the BCIJ team discovered the remains of a pressure cooker, a metal tube, electrical cables and nails used in experimental operations to manufacture a remote-controlled explosive charge.

The same source also indicates that other seizures were made at the home of one of the suspects, located in Sélouane in the province of Nador. These include medium-sized plastic tubes that will be subjected to scientific expertise.

The ongoing investigation into the arrested persons has revealed their involvement in the planning of the execution of several terrorist projects targeting sensitive sites in Morocco.

The press release from the Ministry of the Interior specified that the accused will be brought before the justice once the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office is completed.
