Morocco Tourism Growth Outpaces Global Average by 300%

Morocco’s tourism sector is recording exceptional performance at the beginning of 2026. With a significant increase in arrivals, this momentum far exceeds international standards, confirming the effectiveness of recent development strategies.

Over the first five months of the current year, 7.7 million travelers have flocked to the destination, showing a 7% increase compared to the same period last year. May alone recorded 1.7 million vacationers, a jump of 13%. From the first quarter, this trend had already stood out by crushing the competition: Morocco’s growth approached 7%, far outpacing the global average of just 2% set by the United Nations World Tourism Organization.

This acceleration extends the records established the previous year. In 2025, 19.8 million international visitors were recorded, propelling the destination to 22nd place worldwide for arrivals. This performance marks a meteoric rise with a gain of three places in twelve months, and twelve positions since 2019. Financial returns follow this upward curve to reach 14.8 billion dollars, positioning the market at 31st place globally in terms of revenue.

The supervising ministry attributes this result to the government roadmap deployed in 2023. This vast plan simultaneously stimulated air connections, accommodation infrastructure and staff training. Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor believes that these indicators validate the royal vision and call for intensifying ongoing work "in order to sustainably position Morocco among the world’s major tourist destinations by 2030".
