Morocco Tightens Security Measures Ahead of Eid al-Adha Amid COVID-19 Concerns

To avoid the consequences after the celebration of Eid Al Adha, the Moroccan authorities are strengthening controls at the entrances and exits of cities. The period is conducive to a significant increase in the movement of citizens. Thus, the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie have multiplied the checks concerning the respect of the preventive measures and the barrier gestures.
On the eve of the celebration of Eid Al Adha, the authorities are insisting on the strict respect of the state of health emergency extended until August 10. It is a matter of the health and sanitary safety of the citizens, especially at a time when the cases of contamination have started to rise again and that clusters of contamination of the delta variant have been detected in certain cities, reports Hespress.
The same source noted a strict control of vehicles carried out by the gendarmes along the road from Marrakech to Tinghir, through the mountainous bends of Tichka. This involves checking travel authorizations and wearing protective masks. The authorities want to prevent the regions that have low contamination rates from changing status the day after Eid El Adha.
Large taxis and tourist transport vehicles are also checked, especially with regard to the number of passengers transported and compliance with barrier gestures.
