Delta Variant Surge Raises Concerns for Eid al-Adha Celebrations in Morocco

The latest information on the Delta variant of covid 19 in the world is worrying several Moroccan observers who are already calling for tougher restrictions. As was the case last year, the virus spread rate could flare up with the celebration of Eid al-Adha.
Will there be new restrictions around the celebrations of Eid al-Adha? The question remains open due to the repeated alerts from Moroccan experts who warn the Moroccan authorities about the virulence of this form of the virus. For several weeks, they have been calling on them to impose the barrier measures that are visibly being ignored more and more.
To this effect, in 2020, restrictive measures were taken as the religious holidays approached. Despite this, the festivities and family visits around Eid al-Adha marked the beginning of the second wave.
This scenario is also very likely this year, fears Azzedine el Ibrahimi, member of the scientific committee of the Ministry of Health, who adds that with the opening of borders and especially the vaccination that is not yet widespread, the country is not yet out of danger. He calls for maintaining the observance of barrier gestures.
The Delta variant first identified at the end of 2020 in India is known to be more contagious. Around the world, health authorities are concerned about its expansion. Already responsible for an epidemic resurgence in the United Kingdom in recent weeks, this variant could, according to specialists, cause a rebound as early as this summer if nothing is done to counter it.
