Morocco Plans $600 Million High-Speed Rail Link Between Marrakech and Agadir

In his speech on the Green March, the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, had called for the construction of a Marrakech-Agadir railway line. After studies, this future Marrakech-Agadir line will have to be a high-speed train (TGV).
The city of Agadir, the second largest tourist city in Morocco, according to the King’s guidelines, will soon benefit from an ambitious 6 billion DH project that will serve the population in strengthening its visibility at the national and international levels. According to Medias24, this project aims to improve basic infrastructure, the road network as well as life in the slums and make Agadir an economic development hub.
This project is welcomed with open arms by tourists and tourism operators who hope for its rapid realization. The decision to start the work will soon be made, but the question is whether it will be a TGV line or a high-speed line, like the TNR Casa-Rabat.
According to the president of the Tourism Observatory, Said Mouhid, very confident, the future Marrakech-Agadir railway line will have to accelerate the tourism, commercial, cultural... development between the two cities. "The connection between the two cities will mobilize several tourists both inside and outside," he insisted. In reality, the entire Souss-Massa region will be impacted by the new flows.
The president of the Marrakech Regional Tourism Council, Hamid Bentahar, thinks that this project will also impact the air sector. "The new possibility of entering an airport and leaving through another, very close, thanks to the TGV, will also be profitable for the air sector." He concludes by saying: "In the long run, the project will expand our markets, the clientele and consequently, the revenues".
