King Mohammed VI Launches $2 Billion Urban Development Plan for Agadir

Accompanied by the Crown Prince, Moulay Hassan, King Mohammed VI presided over the inauguration ceremony of the urban development program for the city of Agadir (2020-2024) on Tuesday, January 4.
This structural program aims to strengthen the city’s position as an integrated economic hub and locomotive for the region as a whole.
The general framework of the program, drawn from the royal speech on the 44th anniversary of the Green March, was presented in an address by the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit. The priority axes selected for this program revolve around strengthening the infrastructure of the Souss-Massa region, developing the road network, the Marrakech-Agadir rail link and strengthening the strategic position of the region.
Laftit stressed that the region, with its rich potential, is predisposed to transform itself into a true economic hub, endowed with strong competitiveness and attractiveness, capable of meeting the challenges of advanced regionalization and consolidating its national and continental influence.
The urban development program for Agadir, with a budget estimated at 6 billion dirhams, is only a logical continuation of the many projects launched by the Sovereign throughout the kingdom, including "Rabat, City of Lights", "Grand Tanger", "Marrakech, City of Permanent Renewal", to name but a few.
