Non-Resident Moroccans who enter Morocco with a vehicle registered abroad benefit from the temporary admission regime. However, a hasty departure abroad, for professional, family, or health reasons, can complicate matters if the car remains in Morocco.

In this case, Moroccan customs distinguishes two situations. If temporary admission is still valid, the owner is authorized to leave his vehicle in a location of his choice. This can be a private or public garage. The guide specifies that this deposit can be made without customs sealing.

The car must not be used

This possibility does not mean that the vehicle can circulate freely in the absence of its owner. Re-exportation must be completed before the expiration date of the temporary admission granted. It can be done by the beneficiary himself or, in certain cases, by another person authorized to drive the vehicle abroad.

The rule is even stricter when temporary admission has expired. In this case, the Non-Resident Moroccan must sign a declaration of honor. He then commits to regularizing, upon his return to Morocco, the customs situation of his vehicle as well as any disputes related to exceeding the temporary admission period.

In both cases, the guide is clear: the vehicle must not be used by a third party. This clarification is important, as many Non-Resident Moroccans may be tempted to leave the car with a relative while awaiting their return.

Possible authorization to remove the vehicle

If the owner cannot re-export his vehicle himself, authorization can be granted by the Customs Administration to allow another person to drive it abroad. This authorization must be requested from the customs office closest to the residence in Morocco.

When the request is made after the temporary admission period has expired, authorization can still be granted, but only after regularizing the dispute aspect.

The Non-Resident Moroccan therefore remains committed to customs until the vehicle is re-exported or cleared through customs under regulatory conditions. In other words, leaving Morocco urgently is not enough to end customs obligations related to the car.
