MRE Car Fines Morocco 10000 Dirhams Customs Rules
For MREs entering Morocco with a foreign-registered vehicle, the rule is clear: the vehicle cannot remain indefinitely on the territory. If the authorized time limit is exceeded, customs imposes penalties that can reach 10,000 dirhams.
Every year, many Moroccans residing abroad return to Morocco by car as part of the Marhaba operation. Their vehicle then benefits from the temporary admission regime, which allows them to drive in Morocco without customs clearance, provided they respect the deadlines set by the administration.

The maximum authorized duration is 180 days per calendar year. This period can be used in a single trip or in several stays. But once this deadline is exceeded, the vehicle becomes irregular. The owner must then voluntarily present themselves to the customs service to regularize their situation.
The penalty amount depends on the duration of the overstay. According to the customs guide for MREs, the fine is 1,000 dirhams for an overstay of 30 days or less, 2,500 dirhams for a delay of 31 to 60 days, 5,000 dirhams for an overstay of 61 days to six months, and 10,000 dirhams when the delay exceeds 180 days.
Customs also clarifies that a vehicle that has exceeded the temporary admission deadline cannot circulate without authorization from the administration. The risk is therefore not limited to a simple fine: the owner can find themselves blocked until the file is regularized.
Upon expiration of the deadline, two solutions exist: re-export the vehicle out of Morocco or clear it through customs according to regulatory conditions, with payment of applicable duties and taxes. Selling, lending, or making the vehicle available without customs authorization can also result in sanctions.
