Moroccan Expats Face Steep Fines for Overstaying Vehicle Import Limits

Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) who do not comply with the temporary admission deadline for their vehicles in Morocco will face severe fines, which could amount to several thousand dirhams.
In its latest guide dedicated to MREs, the Moroccan customs administration reviews the details of these fines, which can sometimes be hefty.
Thus, any exceeding of the 6-month deadline granted for the temporary admission of a vehicle requires the owner to spontaneously report to the customs service to pay a penalty. The rates are structured as follows:
• An overrun of 30 days or less will result in a fine of 1,000 Moroccan dirhams (MAD);
• Between 31 and 60 days of overrun, the fine will be 2,500 MAD;
• If the overrun is between 61 days and 6 months, the fine will rise to 5,000 MAD;
• Finally, any overrun of more than 180 days will be punished by a fine of 10,000 MAD.
Similarly, any vehicle that has exceeded the temporary admission deadline is not authorized to circulate without the agreement of the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration.
