Morocco Eases Vehicle Export Rules for Expatriates in Emergencies

The Temporary Admission (TA) regime allows Moroccans Residing Abroad (MREs) to temporarily import their vehicle into Morocco. Unforeseen situations may prevent the owner from re-exporting the vehicle themselves. The Moroccan customs administration has put in place procedures to deal with these situations.
If the vehicle owner is unable to re-export it, they can request an authorization from the nearest customs office. This authorization allows a third party to drive the vehicle out of Morocco, even if they do not meet the conditions to benefit from the TA.
It is recommended to carry out this procedure before the end of the TA validity period. If this deadline is exceeded, a regularization will be necessary with the customs services.
An exception to this procedure concerns people residing abroad. If such a person drives the TA vehicle of an MRE, the authorization is not required. However, they will have to be in possession of the necessary documents: registration certificate, valid TA document, proof of residence abroad and a power of attorney.
It is important to emphasize that the TA beneficiary remains responsible for the vehicle until its re-export or clearance, in accordance with the regulations.
In the event of the death of the TA beneficiary, the heirs or a person mandated by them are authorized to repatriate the vehicle or clear it.
Finally, it is recalled that any new importation of a vehicle under TA is subject to the re-export or clearance of the previously imported vehicle.
