Wealthy Young Driver Jailed After Deliberately Running Over Gendarme at Moroccan Checkpoint

The elements of the judicial center of the Royal Gendarmerie of Témara arrested a young driver from a wealthy background who ran over a gendarme at a roadblock in Harhoura. This "Ould Lefchouch" (spoiled child) is being prosecuted for attempted murder and hit-and-run. Pending a decision on his fate, he has been detained in the Tamesna prison.
A speeding control that goes wrong. A gendarme in charge of the control tried to intercept the driver of a vehicle speeding on the road connecting Harhoura and Aïn Atiq. But the man at the wheel of the car "would have refused to comply, deliberately rushing at the agent and throwing him to the ground in front of his colleagues," reports Al Akhbar. They rushed to his aid. Injured, the gendarme was urgently transferred to the military hospital in Rabat, where he was received in intensive care.
The elements of the judicial center of the Royal Gendarmerie of Témara succeeded, at the end of last week, in identifying the driver of the car. He was quickly located thanks to a joint investigation between the Aïn Atiq and Tamesna brigades. He will be arrested and then held in custody on the orders of the competent public prosecutor’s office near the Court of Appeal of Rabat. After being presented to the Attorney General of the King, he was incarcerated in the Tamesna prison, pending his hearing by the investigating judge.
Prosecuted for attempted murder, hit-and-run, and endangering the life of others, the young man risks a lot. He will soon be informed of his fate.
