Morocco: Car chase and gunfire from the Gendarmerie to intercept a truck containing 5 tons of drugs
A routine traffic control operation turned into a car chase and record seizure this Monday near Bouskoura. Elements of the Royal Gendarmerie intercepted a large shipment of cannabis resin, estimated at around 5 tons, hidden on board a heavy goods vehicle.
The intervention began during a routine roadblock on the highway connecting Casablanca to Safi. The confused behavior of the driver of a tanker truck, theoretically intended for the transport of cement, aroused the suspicions of the patrol leader. As the gendarmes were about to conduct a search, the driver refused to comply and fled at high speed, forcing the security device.
Shots to immobilize the vehicle
Faced with this escape attempt, a gendarme had to use his service weapon. Four bullets were fired into the tires of the truck, forcing the vehicle to stop after a two-kilometer chase. While the driver and his passenger managed to flee by taking advantage of the darkness, the search of the vehicle led to a major discovery.
Inspection of the tank revealed that it did not contain cement, but huge bales of chira carefully hidden. This cargo, intended according to the first elements for an international maritime smuggling network, is part of the fight of the security services against drug trafficking.
