US, Morocco, Israel to Mark First Year of Diplomatic Accord with High-Level Meeting

The United States, Morocco and Israel intend to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the tripartite agreement signed at the palace of King Mohammed VI, a few days after the American recognition of the kingdom’s sovereignty over the Sahara in exchange for the normalization of diplomatic relations between Rabat and Tel Aviv. In this sense, a high-level tripartite meeting is scheduled for December 22, 2021.
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken and his Moroccan and Israeli counterparts, Nasser Bourita and Yaïr Lapid will participate on December 22nd in a high-level meeting as part of the celebration of the first anniversary of the tripartite agreement signed in Rabat, reports the Israeli press. The format of this meeting is not yet known.
The American Secretary of State, for his part, proposes a virtual meeting due to the concern raised by the Omicron variant. "The proposal for a remote meeting comes from the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, who is absolutely determined to commemorate the first anniversary of the tripartite agreement," says a source to the site Le360.
On November 22nd, Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, had been received by his American counterpart at the headquarters of the State Department. In a statement, the United States had reiterated its support for the autonomy plan, presented by Morocco as the only solution to the Sahara conflict. "We continue to consider Morocco’s autonomy plan as serious, credible and realistic," said the spokesman for American diplomacy, Ned Price.
