US Hails Morocco-Israel Ties as Key to Middle East Peace Progress

For the United States, the restoration of diplomatic ties between Morocco and Israel is likely to bring "broader peace to the Middle East".
Speaking during the ceremony organized on the sidelines of the 1st anniversary of the resumption of Moroccan-Israeli diplomatic relations within the framework of the tripartite Morocco-Israel-USA agreement, which took place on Thursday in Washington, Yael Lempert, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, spoke about the historical and security significance of this act signed by the two countries.
"We consider the Moroccan-Israeli normalization agreement not only as a positive element for Israel and Morocco individually, but also as an agreement that will contribute to the stability of the region and a really important element in achieving our strategic objectives," she stressed, adding that a strong relationship between Israel and Morocco has the potential to contribute to broader peace in the Middle East, including between Israelis and Palestinians."
Discussing the fallout of this bilateral cooperation, the American official noted that for several months now, the two peoples have already benefited from numerous protocols of agreements related to trade, tourism, culture and more recently in the field of defense.
