Morocco creates a service to teach the children of Moroccans living abroad Arabic, Amazigh and their history

The measure appears in Order No. 1275.26 of the Minister of National Education, dated June 4, 2026, and published in the Official Bulletin No. 7541 of September 7, 2026. The text reorganizes the services of the ministry’s central administration and sets out their new responsibilities.

Article 85 entrusts the department responsible for cooperation and partnerships with monitoring, supporting and assisting the teaching of Arabic and Amazigh, as well as Moroccan culture and the history and geography of Morocco, to Moroccan children residing abroad. These issues directly concern the transmission of the language to Moroccan children born or raised in Europe.

A service specifically focused on those living abroad

The new organization goes further by providing, within this same division, a service expressly dedicated to supporting the teaching of Arabic and Amazigh, as well as the history and geography of Morocco, abroad. This mission also concerns institutions operating under foreign missions in Morocco.

The matter is thus directly integrated into the ministry’s central structure responsible for cooperation. This structure must also prepare and monitor bilateral and multilateral international agreements and support partnerships in the education sector.

The explicit mention of Amazigh is particularly noteworthy. Moroccan associations established abroad had already called for its inclusion in education intended for Moroccans living abroad, particularly in agreements concluded with host countries.

The order thus gives a precise institutional place, within National Education, to maintaining linguistic and cultural ties with the new generations of Moroccans established abroad.
