Morocco: Towards faster and better-adapted consular services for Moroccans Residing Abroad (MREs)

In order to improve consular services, "the competent services are striving to reduce the user’s waiting time for the processing of the consular service, from 45 minutes in 2025 to 38 minutes in 2026," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the presentation of its draft budget on Tuesday before the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, the ministry indicated that it will pay particular attention to "consular and social affairs" in 2026 in order to improve the quality of consular services provided by the consular centers as well as by the consular services of the kingdom’s embassies abroad.

In its report, the ministry expressed its ambition to better satisfy Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) as well as foreigners who present themselves to Moroccan consular services to benefit from consular services. This, by "improving the reception conditions, reducing the processing time of files and guaranteeing the quality of the service".

The ministry aims at "improving the quality of social services provided to members of the Moroccan community residing abroad" and "supporting consular and social cooperation". The department of Nasser Bourita also says it gives priority to women in all consular and social services, ensuring that they are provided with social benefits in line with their needs, both in Morocco and in their country of residence.

The ministry adds that the gender dimension is also taken into account in the mobile consulates, which ensure that consular services are provided mainly to vulnerable categories who have difficulty traveling, "and this through the proximity of the administration to these people".
