Morocco arrests Paris Kalashnikov killer after years on run

The operation took place on Sunday, June 29 in Al Hoceima. The suspect, holding dual Moroccan and French nationality, was located based on intelligence provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST). The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) announced this capture the following day.

The 28-year-old man was actively hunted internationally. Interpol’s database displayed a red notice for his arrest, specifically requested by the National Central Bureau in Paris as part of an investigation linked to organized crime.

The criminal case dates back to Friday, July 19, 2019. That evening, a man born in 1992 collapsed, fatally struck during an armed attack in the Passage Hébrard sector, located in the 10th arrondissement of the capital.

The shooter had deliberately targeted the victim with a Kalashnikov-type assault rifle before fleeing. The criminal brigade, immediately seized by the Paris prosecutor’s office, had nevertheless managed to identify the fugitive at the time thanks to his vehicle.

Now in the hands of authorities, the man was placed in police custody. The competent prosecutor’s office is currently reviewing the case and official documents sent by France. This procedure will determine the legal consequences to be applied, in accordance with the texts governing national jurisdiction regarding its own citizens.
