Marrakech: A French scammer wanted by Interpol arrested for a fake motorcycle ad
The flight of a 51-year-old French national has come to an end in Marrakech. Wanted by Interpol for previous frauds, the man was apprehended by the Guéliz police after setting up a new scam involving the sale of a motorcycle online.
It was a complaint that unmasked the fugitive. The judicial police brigade of the Guéliz district opened an investigation following the report of a victim claiming to have been stripped of 80,000 dirhams. The modus operandi was classic: the suspect had posted a fictitious ad on an online sales site, offering a motorcycle that he never delivered after cashing the money.
The arrest quickly revealed that the Marrakech scam was not a first attempt. The check in the database of the International Criminal Police Organization revealed a "red notice" issued by the National Central Bureau in Paris. The fifty-year-old was actively wanted by the French justice system for the execution of a conviction related to similar cases of fraud and scam.
Placed in custody under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to answer for his actions in Morocco, the suspect is now the subject of an extradition procedure. The Interpol office in Rabat has notified the French authorities of this arrest, triggering the administrative and judicial process for his return to the Hexagon.
