Moroccans Abroad: Arbitrary Arrest Fears Grow in Morocco

Fatima Tamni, elected representative of the Federation of the Democratic Left, echoed the concerns of many young Moroccans living in France. They fear being subjected to interrogations or legal proceedings as soon as they enter the national territory because of their digital activities.

According to the parliamentarian, this situation has created a “genuine state of concern” within the community. Expatriates are questioning whether search warrants may have been issued without their knowledge and fear that simply expressing an opinion online could constitute grounds for restricting their freedom.

The elected representative is asking the Interior Ministry to clarify whether proceedings are currently targeting young Moroccans abroad over their publications on digital platforms. She recommends establishing legal safeguards to inform those concerned before their arrival in order to avoid “situations of fear and confusion.”

Fatima Tamni is also urging the government to clarify the legal conditions governing detentions at the borders. She is calling for concrete measures to reassure the diaspora and guarantee every citizen’s right to return to their country “without fear,” in compliance with constitutional rights and the law.
