Moroccan MP Calls for Fuel Price Cuts as Global Oil Costs Drop

The continued rise in fuel prices in Morocco, despite the drop in the price of a barrel of oil, is worrying MP Fatima Tamni, of the Federation of the Democratic Left, who has questioned the government on this issue.
In a written question to the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Fatima Tamni denounced the fact that fuel prices in Morocco remain high, despite the drop in the price of a barrel of oil to less than $67. "Why is this international drop not reflected at the gas stations at the national level?" she asked.
The parliamentarian claims that, according to experts in the sector, fuel prices in Morocco should be much lower than they are currently. According to her, the liter of diesel should cost 10.23 dirhams and that of gasoline 11.58 dirhams. This is not the case, she laments, accusing the oil companies of taking advantage of the situation to increase their profits.
For Fatima Tamni, these companies are showing "greed" due to the lack of oversight by the Competition Council and the silence of the government. In the end, it is the consumers, whose purchasing power has considerably weakened, who are paying the price of this greed, she regrets.
The deputy asks the government what measures it plans to take urgently to put an end to these practices of the oil companies. She calls for strengthening the powers of the Competition Council to ensure better monitoring of fuel prices and to impose sanctions in case of infractions, while supporting the vulnerable classes.
