The 'invasion' of Moroccan territories by the Algerian army reaches parliament

The Federation of the Democratic Left (FGD) has summoned the government to act following the recent movements of the Algerian army in the border area of Ksar Ich. Deputy Fatima Tamni is demanding emergency measures to protect the historical rights of local farmers and a diplomatic management of the file.

The incidents that occurred on February 4 in the province of Figuig have made their way to Parliament. Fatima Tamni, a deputy of the Federation of the Democratic Left, has sent a written question to the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, concerning what she describes as Algerian "provocations" in the locality of Ksar Ich.

The elected official refers to the unilateral installation of border markers by Algerian elements and the intimidation of Moroccan farmers, who are prevented from accessing their orchards. Faced with this situation, which recalls the scenario of the El Arja oasis in 2021, Ms. Tamni is demanding clarification on the Executive’s strategy to "protect the rights and interests of the affected citizens" and ensure respect for bilateral neighborhood agreements.

Beyond the security response, the parliamentarian insists on the social aspect, asking for compensation measures for the populations affected economically and psychologically. She also calls for the opening of dialogue channels to avoid the repetition of such incidents, while advocating for the involvement of local elected officials and residents in any future negotiation process concerning the border demarcation.
