New incursion of Algerian troops into Moroccan territory
Tensions are rising on the eastern border of the Kingdom. According to journalist and activist Oualid Kébir, elements of the Algerian border guards have carried out an incursion, this Wednesday morning, inside Moroccan territory at the locality of Ich, in the province of Figuig.
The incident, which occurred precisely at 11 a.m. on February 11, 2026, saw the soldiers cross the makeshift border markers they had themselves established a few days earlier. According to information relayed on the X platform, the detachment penetrated to a depth of 150 to 200 meters. This unauthorized presence on Moroccan soil lasted nearly two hours before the elements turned back to regain their initial positions.
This maneuver is part of a series of recent provocations reported in this sensitive border area. Last week, Algerian soldiers had already tried to unilaterally modify the route by placing markers and damaging agricultural operations. An intervention by the Royal Armed Forces had then been necessary to compel the neighboring army to withdraw and respect the demarcation line.
The growing instability in Ich has reached the national political arena. Deputy Fatima Tamni has seized the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, through a written question to alert him to the situation. The elected official calls on the Executive to take measures to protect the historical and social rights of the inhabitants of the ksar, while advocating for strengthening the diplomatic approach to manage these recurrent border frictions.
